Welcome to Chasing the Advantage, my blog for the Global Strategic Management capstone course with Dr. Frances Fabian at the University of Memphis. My name is Matt Antwine, and this is my final semester in the Online MBA program. Through this blog, which will be updated each week based on new lessons in strategic management, I will analyze the business structure and decisions of JPMorgan Chase and relate those to the lessons learned in this course.
So, why JPMorgan Chase? Why not Amazon, Google, Walmart, Coca-Cola? Well, for the majority of my working life, I have worked in finance and banking, and while I didn’t initially intend to work in this industry, I’ve come to love it and to be fascinated by the business decisions that banks and financial institutions make when presented with internal and external pressures. So for me, choosing the largest bank in the United States lets me bring the industry I love into the framework of this course and learn from it in a structured way.
As much as I am excited by this series of assignments, I’m more excited to share what I’ve learned — and what I will learn — in this class with an audience who appreciates lifelong learning and business strategy.
So join me as we explore JPMorgan Chase and the world of strategic management.
